Beginning on the weekend of May 22nd, the Allentown Catholic Diocese will allow churches to return to full capacity. The diocese says worshipers will still have to wear masks, as will priests and others giving out Communion. The sign of peace will continue to remained shelved. The obligation to attend Mass is not being lifted yet and Bishop Alfred Schlert says he doesn t know when that might change.
We ve learned more than 50 Allentown Catholic Diocese priests will be getting new assignments later this year. Official word will be announced at Masses in most diocese churches this weekend.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health Thursday announced 2476 new coronavirus cases in the state, leaving the state s overall total at 1,166,692. 57 new COVID-related deaths, pushing the state s total to 26,447. Right now, 2131 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, 467 of whom are in the intensive care unit. ....

Nearly a year into the coronavirus pandemic, another item is flying off supermarket shelves - seafood. In the past year, grocery retailers have noticed an uptick in sales of seafood as fewer people dine out at restaurants.
Bloomberg recently reported sales of frozen seafood at U.S. supermarkets and other food retailers grew by 26% in the four weeks ending Dec. 27 compared to a year earlier, according to market research company IRI. Meanwhile, fresh seafood sales climbed 25%. ....

Karns, Weis Markets closing early due to snowstorm

Karns Foods will close its stores at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 due to the snowstorm. Stores will reopen at 9 a.m. Dec. 17.

Karns Foods and Weis Markets are adjusting hours.
“Due to the expected storm and the predicted snowfall over the next 24 hours, many of our stores are closing early today,” said Dennis Curtin, Weis spokesman, in an email.
The chain’s stores in and around Harrisburg, Gettysburg, Chambersburg, Shippensburg, Hanover, Lancaster and York will close between 3 and 4 p.m. to ensure the safety of employees, he said. The stores will reopen at 10 a.m. Dec. 17. ....
