Onslow man pleads guilty, sentenced to prison in apartment shooting


The investigation into last year s Liberty Crossing Apartment shooting in Jacksonville has come to a close as the man officers say was responsible pled guilty to the charges on Wednesday.  
Jared Jordan Goforth, 26, formerly of Camp Lejeune, pled guilty in Onslow County Superior Court to discharging a weapon into occupied property and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
On Feb. 27, 2020, officers with the Jacksonville Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call in the Liberty Crossing Apartments area, located between 251 and 500 Carmen. Avenue just after 6 a.m. During the initial investigation, witnesses explained gunshots had been fired. 
Upon arrival, officers determined multiple rounds had been shot into the east side of a building. The rounds traveled through several apartments.  ....

Onslow County woman loses appeal in 2018 from courtroom attack


An Onslow County woman, who was convicted of simple assault after she attacked the owner of a local auto repair shop in small claims court, lost her appeal.
The woman claimed she was suffering from automatism at the time of the incident and was unaware of her actions. 
In June 2018, Patricia Kirley brought her car to an auto repair shop owned by Shawn Boggs. After the car was repaired, court documents say Kirley began sending threatening texts to Boggs and said she was not going to pay for the repairs, though it did not list a reason for the refusal of payment. In turn, Boggs refused to release the car.  ....

Jacksonville man sentenced on drug, felon charges


A 2016 drug arrest was the most recent conviction for a Jacksonville man on April 15, but his sentencing on Wednesday landed him behind bars for possibly 20 years because of his habitual felon status, according to court officials.
Samuel Boswell, 46, of 467 White Oak Lane in Jacksonville, was convicted by a jury in Onslow County Superior Court for selling cocaine, delivering cocaine, manufacturing cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and two counts of possession of cocaine with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine.
Afterwards, a separate hearing found Boswell a habitual felon. Judge Charles H. Henry sentenced Boswell to a total of 190-253 months (16-21 years) in jail between the drug and felon sentences, both to run consecutively in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.  ....

Onslow fugitive on the run for 11 days arrested in Maryland, awaiting extradition


An Onslow man, who fled the superior courthouse after the jury reached their verdict in his trial, was arrested in Maryland early Tuesday morning and is awaiting extradition back to the county. 
In early April, Derek Brandon Stokes , 34, trial was held in Onslow County Superior Court. Stokes, who was not in custody and out on bond pending his trial, was waiting in the hallway of the courthouse for the jury to return its verdict in his trial.
Officials reported on April 9 when Stokes was informed the jury had reached a verdict, he ran out of the courthouse and fled the area. In his absence, the jury’s verdict was announced, finding Stokes guilty of all counts including 3 counts of disclosure of private images, 3 counts of disseminating obscenity, and 3 counts of being a habitual felon with sentencing pending further court action. ....

Onslow: Defendant pleads guilty after drug deal gone wrong led to murder


Just a few days before the trial was scheduled to begin, a defendant from Indiana made a shocking announcement and decided to take a guilty plea. 
On Friday afternoon, Jamie Weaks, now 24, pled guilty in Onslow County Superior Court to 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of 41-year-old Felicia Parker at the Budget Inn on July 31, 2018. Weaks is sentenced to 264 months to 329 months (22-27 years) in the NC Department of Adult Corrections. 
The trial was scheduled to begin Monday, March 8. 
In an email to The Daily News from DA Ernie Lee, Weaks went to the hotel room looking for Enoch Parker, who had cheated Weak s sister in a drug deal earlier in the day. Felicia Parker was the sole occupant at the time of the shooting when Weaks cames to the hotel and knocked on the door. When (Felicia) Parker didn t open the door, Weaks fired a 9 mm handgun three times into the room.  ....
