Eugene woman sets Pacific Crest Trail speed record, finishes in 7 days


She chose one of Oregon’s most grueling challenges. 
In the early morning darkness of Aug. 1, the 35-year-old Eugene resident laced up her shoes at the Oregon-California border and stepped onto the Pacific Crest Trail.
Then she started running.
Over the next week, Halnon ran up mountains and down river valleys, through a frigid thunderstorm and boiling temperatures, felt her shins ache and feet swell up on 17-hour days in remote wilderness.
When she reached the Washington border on Aug. 9, Halnon had set a new speed record for the Oregon section of the PCT: 455 miles in 7 days, 19 hours and 23 minutes. ....

Oregon COVID-19 update: Cases, hospitalizations, deaths drop

Oregon reports 553 new COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths
Oregon has reported 553 new COVID-19 cases and 10 new deaths, including one in Marion County.
That brings the cumulative case count to 154,554 and the death toll to 2,204, according to the Oregon Health Authority.
Marion County reported 58 new cases. Polk County reported 12.
There were 156 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 Thursday. Of those, 38 were in intensive care and 13 were on ventilators.
As of Thursday, Oregon had administered 858,206 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. More than half a million people in the state have been vaccinated, including 263,461 who have received a first dose, and 294,725 who have received both doses. ....

An ice storm swept through the mid-Willamette Valley Friday night, downing trees and causing widespread power outages. Here are ongoing list of resources for residents impacted by the storm:
