Spy Chiefs Say They Don’t Know How Virus Started, But That China Has Not Been ‘Fully Transparent’
American spy officials said Wednesday that the intelligence community is still unsure how the coronavirus first spread to human populations, though they are confident that the Chinese government has not been transparent about the matter.
“The intelligence community does not know exactly where, when or how COVID-19 virus was transmitted initially,” Avril Haines, the director for national intelligence, told the Senate Intelligence Committee during a hearing on global national security threats.
She had been asked by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, the vice-chairman of the Senate panel, about the possibility that the virus emerged from a leak in a laboratory at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. ....

Covid-19 origins report postponed: WHO

GENEVA: An international expert team that visited China to investigate the origins of Covid-19 has postponed publishing their report, which will now likely appear next week, the WHO said on Tuesday.
The report is simply not ready , World Health Organisation spokesman Christian Lindmeier told reporters. What we hear from the technical experts, from the mission members, is that the report most likely will come out now next week, he added.
The highly-anticipated report is expected to examine a range of theories about how the virus first jumped from animals to humans, which the experts looked into during their four-week mission to Wuhan the city where the first Covid-19 cases were identified. ....

Professor Avi Loeb, the former chair of astrophysics at Harvard University, believes an object that passed through our solar system had extraterrestrial origins - but his colleagues largely disagreed.
In late 2017, scientists at a Hawaiian observatory glimpsed a strange object soaring through our inner solar system.
The object - dubbed Oumuamua - was pancake-shaped and as big as a football field. It had no tail so wasn t a comet and it was moving too quickly to be an asteroid. ....
