New Albany to improve interchange at routes 161-62 in yearlong project

New Albany motorists soon will see major changes to the interchange at state Route 161 and U.S. Route 62.
“This interchange area has been on the radar for several years for a variety of reasons,” said Mike Barker, deputy director of public service for New Albany. “For one, this is definitely the area of highest travel volume in our corporate boundary, so there are a lot of cars in and out of New Albany that use this interchange.”
The city will spend $6.8 million in improvements to the interchange to be completed in two phases, with the first starting in July. No closures are planned, and traffic will be maintained throughout the completion of the project, Barker said. ....

Central Ohio breweries have been responding to that need ever since the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic hit last year.
Heather Sever, vice president and director of donor services for Versiti Blood Center of Ohio, said it might seem like an unlikely pairing – breweries serving as hosts for blood-donation events. But, she said, the brewery community, as well as distilleries and wineries, are known for giving back to the community.
Versiti Blood Center of Ohio joins four other Versiti Inc. blood centers in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan, as well as the Blood Research Institute, which offers biomedical research innovation to improve blood health, according to Versiti s Ohio page: versiti.org/ohio. ....

The New Albany Community Foundation held its 18th annual Remarkable Evening benefit virtually Dec. 8. The theme centered on celebrating 25 years of transformational donor impact.
The foundation also announced the 2020 Jeanne & John G. McCoy Community Service Award honoree: Angela Douglas, Healthy New Albany executive director and New Albany Food Pantry founder.
The award was established by the foundation in 2004 to recognize individuals who have made a significant impact in the community through their leadership, generosity and volunteerism. The McCoys were well-known throughout central Ohio for their philanthropy and community service.
Douglas joins a distinguished group of New Albany leaders who also have received the community-service award. ....
