LANSING, Mich. â More than 1 million Michiganders obtained health coverage for 2021 during the Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period or through the stateâs expanded Medicaid program, a news release said Thursday.
âNo Michigander should have to worry about how theyâll afford health insurance, especially during a global pandemic,â Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said. âMy administration has been working around the clock to ensure people across the state can access quality, affordable health care. The Healthy Michigan Plan that I worked across the aisle to pass as Senate Democratic Leader has surpassed 850,000 enrollees. I will continue to work with partners across the state to protect and expand health coverage for Michiganders.â ....

More than one million Michigan residents signed up for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace or the Healthy Michigan Plan for 2021. That’s according to the administration of Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The administration has released the following:
After an extensive joint outreach campaign by the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), more than 1 million Michiganders obtained health coverage for 2021 during the Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period or through the state’s expanded Medicaid program.

The Healthy Michigan Plan is now providing health care coverage to over 850,000 Michiganders, a record number announced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Dec. 17.
“Every Michigander deserves quality, affordable health care, especially during a pandemic,” Gov. Whitmer said. “As we continue working to eradicate COVID-19 and with the Affordable Care Act under constant attack in the courts, it’s more important than ever that we protect the Healthy Michigan plan and ensure health care for Michiganders across the state.”

The state’s Department of Health and Human Services has made multiple changes this year that allow for more Michiganders to be enrolled. The MDHHS streamlined the application process, halted the termination of plans and froze premium costs for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. ....
