NM Expands COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Next Week, Expects 130,000 Doses

Starting April 5, New Mexico will begin Phase 2 for COVID-19 vaccines, making all New Mexicans 16 years and older eligible. According to a health department news release, the state will continue to prioritize vaccine invitations for remaining candidates in early phases of its vaccination plan: frontline health care workers in Phase 1A, New Mexicans 75 years and older from Phase 1B and New Mexicans 60 years and older with a chronic condition.
However, as providers in some parts of the state are no longer able to fill appointments within the open Phases 1A, 1B and 1C, all phases will be allowed.  President Biden directed states to make all adults eligible for vaccine by May 1. New Mexico will meet that mark nearly a month early, DOH Cabinet Secretary Dr. Tracie Collins said in a statement. New Mexico health officials yesterday reported 186 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 188,664, with the health department designating 168,191 of those as recovered. New Mexico health officials yesterday reported 236 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 187,720. The health department has designated 161,650 of those as recovered. New Mexico health officials yesterday reported 257 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 187,487. The health department has designated 160,142 of those as recovered.
