The University of Connecticut board of trustees unanimously voted to appoint UConn Health Chief Executive Officer Dr. Andrew Agwunobi as interim president on Wednesday, the first person of color to hold the position in the history of the university.
“I’m honored and humbled to be asked to serve as president for this interim period, and I’m happy to do anything I can do to support the University of Connecticut that I’ve come to love and its mission,” Agwunobi said during Wednesday’s board meeting. ....

FARMINGTON, CT UConn Health Chief Executive Officer Dr. Andrew Agwunobi has been selected to serve as the University of Connecticut s interim president.
The UConn Board of Trustees made the appointment Wednesday. He will assume the dual role for an indefinite period of time, UConn officials said. Agwunobi takes over for Thomas Katsouleas, who resigned to concentrate on a faculty position.
Agwunobi is a pediatrician by training, but he also holds a master s of business education degree. He will be the first physician and the first person of color to lead the University. ....
