Last Updated On: Apr 09 2021 12:04 Gmt+3 Former Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı recently suggested Turkey could procure an old Brazilian aircraft carrier set to be sold for scrap and buy Su-33 Flanker navy jets from Russia. The NAe São Paulo was formerly the flagship of the Brazilian Navy, which acquired it from France in 2000. During its service, it was the oldest active aircraft carrier in the world, suffering many mechanical problems and spending less than a year in total at sea. Fighting has been raging in the mountains outside of Marib as Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, who hold Yemen’s capital of Sanaa, attempt to seize the city, which is crucial to the country’s energy supplies. Saudi Arabia, which has led a military coalition since 2015 backing Sanaa’s exiled government, has launched airstrike after airstrike to blunt the Houthi advance toward Marib. The Houthis have retaliated with drone and missile attacks deep inside Saudi Arabia, roiling global oil markets. ....
