Attorney General Alert: Scams aimed at military and Veterans

LITTLE ROCK – This Memorial Day Weekend is much more than an extra day off from work; it is a day to reflect on the sacrifices that were made by countless men and women who died in service to our nation. It is also a good time to thank our veterans, military service members, and their families for their service to the United States of America. Unfortunately, because of their service, it also makes our brave men and women a target of scam artists who try to manipulate service members to steal their personal information.
“It is disgraceful that these criminals would target some of our bravest men and women who have put their lives on the line for this great country,” said Attorney General Rutledge. “I want veterans, active duty and reserve service members, and their families across Arkansas to learn how to recognize these scams to avoid falling victim to the deception.” ....

Austin Booth to Lead Arkansas Game and Fish

Austin Booth was voted in Thursday afternoon as the next director of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
He is the first external director hire in 21 years and will replace Patt Fitts when Fitts retires on June 30. The commissioners’ approval was unanimous. Booth’s hiring is the result of a nationwide search that began in November that utilized consulting firm Explore Co. of Kensington, Maryland.
The last director who wasn t an internal hire was Hugh Durham in 2000, Spokesman Keith Stephens told Arkansas Business by email.
Booth, a native of Scott, served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps in multiple capacities from 2011-19; he was deployed to Afghanistan from 2015-16. He has been chief of staff and CFO of the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs for the past eight months. ....

VA worked with the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs, United Way 211, and other community partners to host the latest Veterans Experience Action Center (V-VEAC) in Arkansas, April 6-8, 2021. This event provided immediate action on the needs of 657 Veterans. Of note, 177 of these were female Veterans, an often underserved population. The number of female Veteran participants is especially significant as females only make up 7.9% of Arkansas Veterans, yet 26.9% of registered V-VEAC participants were female Veterans. Veterans of all branches of the service participated in this event, as well as Veterans from all eras of service from 1940 right up to those still serving and soon to join the ....
