Florida college students choice of educational institutions may be severely limited next fall if certain members of the Florida House of Representatives have their way. A pair of bills, HB 5601 and HB 1286, would limit students’ ability to access state funding when they choose to attend one of 30 Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF) which are private, not-for-profit SACS accredited institutions. Under the House education bills 16 of the 30 ICUF institutions would be ineligible to use the Effective Access to Student Education (EASE) Grant, formerly FRAG, to help pay for their college education. The Senate, led by President Wilton Simpson, conversely sees the value of EASE and has proposed to return it to a funding level of $3,500 per student. Passing this House legislation would affect students ability to finish their education, which could mean one less nurse or IT professional on the front lines of the next pandemic. ....

New Nursing Degree at Keiser University Tallahassee Addresses Florida Nursing Shortage Keiser University Tallahassee has recently launched a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program to help address Florida’s nursing shortage. The new academic program was launched in January 2021 and was fully enrolled in its first semester.
According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the U.S. is projected to experience a shortage of registered nurses in the coming years. The now-defunct Florida Center for Nursing has said more than 40 percent of Florida’s nurses are approaching retirement age by 2030, leaving the state to face a shortage of RNs that could severely impact the state’s healthcare system. ....

Keiser University Chiropractic Medicine Leader and Alumnus Partner to Publish Research Paper Dr. Ralph Kruse, an Assistant Professor at Keiser University’s College of Chiropractic Medicine (KUCCM) and its Spine Care Clinic Attending Clinician recently teamed with 2019 alumnus Dr. Casey Rogers, now a chiropractic resident at the Miami VA Medical Center to develop a research paper based on medical care and research conducted by Dr. Ted Siciliano, a chiropractic practitioner in New Jersey in 2018.
“Dr. Siciliano treated the patient, is certified in Cox® Technic, and has presented some of his research to KUCCM students, so we were pleased to collaborate for this study relating to low back pain relief,” said Kruse of the chiropractic care administered by Siciliano to an 80-year-old female with a history of lumbar spinal stenosis, multiple lumbar disc herniations, and lumbar spondylosis. ....
