Registration opens Friday for county vaccination clinic
ORLEANS - Barnstable County officials announced they are opening registration for a new COVID-19 vaccine clinic at 4 p.m., Friday
They said 1,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be dispensed April 15 at the vaccination clinic at the Orleans Department of Public Works.
To register, go to: www.maimmunizations.org.
Barnstable County officials said that in the future, regional vaccine clinics will be open for registration before noon on Fridays.
Clinics are currently available for those who meet the following criteria: All those eligible in Phase 1; people who are 60 or older; people with 2 or more certain medical conditions; people who live or work in low income and affordable senior housing; K-12 educators; K-12 school staff; child care workers and certain workers. ....

COVID-19 vaccinations began rolling out in mid-December on Cape Cod as part of a three-phase schedule set up by Massachusetts health officials. Phase two began Feb. 1 and people ages 75 and up are the first group eligible for vaccinations.
Each phase is subdivided by eligible groups of people based on age, health risks, jobs and other factors. Vaccinations for the general public will begin in April in phase three.
In the latest: Gov. Charlie Baker opened up phase two COVID-19 vaccinations Thursday, Feb. 18, to about 1 million people age 65 and up. But Cape Cod officials said they re worried there s not enough vaccine available for people age 75 and up who still haven t gotten shots. Yarmouth Health Director Bruce Murphy, for one, called the news of the eligibility expansion “very disappointing.” ....

New Orleans Facing ADA Lawsuit for State of Sidewalks and Lack of Curb Cuts
The city of New Orleans compliance with Americans With Disabilities Act compliance is too little, too late, according to the plaintiffs in a new lawsuit.

Anthony McAuley reports that three men with disabilities have sued the city of New Orleans for failing to keep pace with planned work to improve sidewalks and curb cuts in accordance with Americans with Disabilities Act (AD) requirements.
In their lawsuit, the three men list hundreds of curb at intersections near their homes that do not have compliant curb ramps. They are asking that the city commit to a timetable to make the curbs compliant with the legislation and an unspecified amount of monetary damages, reports McAuley. ....

Sandwich and Barnstable both held vax clinics for first responders


SANDWICH Town officials said they vaccinated about 250 residents ages 85 and over this week as part of a municipal COVID-19 immunization effort. 
Assistant Town Manager Heather Harper said the town plans to continue to reach out to residents 85 and over who have called the town s helpline, which went live on Jan. 19.
But she urged people to grab the first COVID-19 vaccination they can, be it at a mass vaccination site off Cape, through a pharmacy or a regional clinic sponsored by Barnstable County.
“If you can get (an appointment), take it,” Harper said Friday. “Don’t wait for us.”
Next week, the town plans to focus on dispensing second doses of vaccine to first responders from Sandwich, Falmouth, Mashpee, Bourne and Joint Base Cape Cod who got their initial dose of the Moderna vaccine the week of Jan. 11 at the Sandwich Human Services Building, Harper said. ....
