In a case of revenge murder, a 35-year-old sex worker from
Dhankawadi was brutally murdered by a 27-year-old man early on Saturday. The woman, originating from West Bengal, consumed
alcohol on a regular basis. The accused, Avinash Salve, worked at a nearby bar, where she had significant prior debt. Two days back, as the woman went to buy liquor,
Salve refused to sell till the time she clears her dues.
A verbal fight broke out between the two, when the woman abused and slapped Salve. The accused, feeling humiliated after the incident, committed the gruesome act, and has been remanded in six-day police custody. ....

As the third Covid-19 wave looms, the alcohol industry has written to the presidency requesting an urgent meeting related to Covid-19 related restrictions.

The National Liquor Traders Council says it wants to sit down with government and look at ways to protect people from the virus while saving the livelihoods of millions of people.
While governments plan to combat the third wave is not yet clear, the industry has been bearing the brunt of stringent restrictions.
The Council s Lucky Ntimane says the proposed engagement seeks to ensure that any decisions taken are guided by scientific evidence. ....

As brands push premium, global alcohol ad spend to rise $1bn by 2023

Alcohol advertising is in fine spirits as the hospitality sector reawakens
The drinks sector is predicted to be toasting a welcome return to form through 2021, according to a new ad spend forecast compiled by Zenith, which projects 5.3% growth.
Alcohol ad spend is forecast to rise $6.7bn in 2020 to $7.7bn in 2023 as beer gardens everywhere do a roaring trade from a reawakening leisure and hospitality industry.
The outlook
Alcohol ad spend across 12 key markets including the UK, US and Russia is forecast to jump 5.3% in 2021, outpacing 4.9% growth for the ad market as a whole.
The projection, outlined in Zenith’s Business Intelligence – Alcohol: Beer + Spirits report, then expects alcohol advertising to fall into line with the broader market, experiencing between 4% and 5% annual growth in both 2022 and 2023. ....

An £18 bottle of Morrison s English Sparkling Wine is the best fizz on the market according to experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute.
Ahead of English Wine Week expert taste testers at the magazine put 21 bottles to the test on the look out for well-balanced, aromatic fizz, with lively bubbles, apple, citrus and brioche flavours.
Of all offerings under £35, Morrisons Best English Sparkling Brut Vintage came out on top, which the runner up was a £35 bottle from Chapel Down.
While traditionally English wine hasn t proved popular in recent year s the industry s top critics and winemakers claim the country is producing bottles have never tasted - or sold - better. ....
