Jonesborough gets clean audit report


Jonesborough received a clean audit report for FY 2019-20 during Monday night’s board of mayor and aldermen meeting, which Vice Mayor Adam Dickson said shows the town is in good hands.
“(It) lets us know that our town staff does an excellent job handling day-to-day finances, that, as a board, the mayor and aldermen are making sound decisions for the future of Jonesborough and that we take the financial health of the town seriously,” said Dickson, who presided over Monday’s meeting with Mayor Chuck Vest absent.
Dickson said the clean audit also shows that the town’s model is, thus far, a successful one. ....

A supermajority of aldermen called on the head of the union representing Chicago’s rank-and-file police officers to resign after praising the rioters who stormed and invaded the U.S. Capitol building last week.

Honey Grove City Council filing to open, elections to be May 1


HONEY GROVE — Three seats on the Honey Grove City Council are up for election this year, with polls to open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 1 at Lyday Hall, 540 N. 6th St. in Honey Grove.
Aldermen are elected to serve two-year terms. The first day to apply for a seat is Wednesday and the last will be Feb. 12. Applications are available at Honey Grove City Hall, 633 N. 6th St.
Early voting will begin April 19 and end April 27. The location for early voting has yet to be announced.
