Sotheby’s is to auction off case number one of the limited edition Primum Familiae Vini 2020 collection this month, with bids starting from £30,000.
Every year, the family-owned estates within the PFV select one of their best vintages to produce 12 individually numbered, limited edition cases.
In addition to the dozen bottles of fine wine, including Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2008, Sassicaia 2017 and Vega Sicilia Único 2010, the Sotheby’s case also includes a Primum Familiae Vini passport that will entitle the buyer to visit and dine at each of the 12 estates within the group with up to three guests. ....

Following the release of the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary, Altadis U.S.A. continues to focus on its most iconic premium brand with the upcoming Montecristo Epic Vintage 12, a cigar that the company says contains tobacco from a 2012 harvest. It’s the newest addition to the vintage-specific Montecristo Epic series, which began nine years ago and has seen little expansion since.
Rafael Nodal, head of product capability for Altadis’ parent company Tabacalera USA, tells
Cigar Aficionado that the Epic Vintage 12 consists of an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, Dominican binder and a filler blend of Nicaraguan leaf as well as some Dominican tobacco grown in 2012 the cigar’s defining element. ....

A group of would-be beer thieves were left red-faced and furious after an attempted keg theft went wrong, trashing the pub as they beat a hasty retreat.
Five beer thieves who attempted to steal kegs of beer left for collection outside the The Twa Tams in Perth, Scotland, trashed the pub after their heist went awry.
The robbers attempted to make off with the kegs at around 8.20pm on 13 March, only to discover that they were empty and contained no beer, according to the Daily Record. Realising their error of judgement, four of the five fled the scene but a fifth, apparently incensed, threw a keg through the bar’s antique stained glass window, shattering it. ....

The 60
th annual Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction, held on Sunday 14 March at Château du Clos-de-Vougeot in Burgundy, yielded record results.

As reported by
Wine Industry Advisor, the auction brought in €1,923,000, with total takings up 19% on 2020, despite coronavirus complications and a lower number of lots going under the hammer.
The well attended auction included a record-breaking lot for a barrel of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges Cuvée Georges Faiveley, which went under the hammer for €32,000. ....

Australia’s Accolade Wines has acquired Rolf Binder Wines, based in the Barossa Valley, for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition marks the latest step in the wine group’s growth strategy to invest in South Australia and broaden its brand portfolio.
Family-owned Rolf Binder Wines was founded in 1955 and now boasts a range which includes a Chardonnay, Riesling, five different Shiraz wines as well as Bulls Blood Shiraz/Mataro, a Nero d’Avola, Montepulciano and a semi-sweet frizzante, made from a blend of Gewürztraminer and Frontignac. ....
