CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Instagram and Facebook users can now hide the public “likes” their posts receive. This move could bring an end to a dynamic that ties likes to the influence a person has on social media. Instagram has been testing the ability to hide likes since 2019, in an attempt to make posting less stressful.
This is also a way to fight back against criticisms about how social media platforms can cause tensions for its users and society overall. The option to hide likes on Facebook and Instagram is optional, so it will take time to determine how many people will take this action.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The NBA will not suspend superstar player LeBron James for violating the league’s COVID-19 protocols. This, after James attended a promotional event for a tequila brand last week before the Lakers’ play-in game against the Golden State Warriors.
The event for Lobos 1707 Tequila was found to be in violation of the league’s health and agreed upon safety protocols. Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel says that the team roster has not passed the 85 percent vaccination rate the league requires.
And there’s speculation that James is one of the Lakers that has not had the COVID-19 vaccine. James has not said whether he has gotten the vaccine. Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith says perhaps James should. Smith says, “Considering the multitude of issues he’s been willing to tackle, considering what provoked him to do so because of concerns for his community, his people, those are his words, these are the kinds of things he has said time and time and time again, then why would you not speak on the issue of being vaccinated or not?”

It’s the result of the hacking of the Colonial Pipeline, which caused a temporary shortage along the east coast. And even though experts say not to load up on fuel, it has not stopped drivers from doing just that.
GasBuddy Analyst Patrick De Hann says both the hacking and the hoarding are causing problems: “It’s both. So far, we are in day 5 of the Colonial Pipeline shutdown and we lost, or realized, 500 gallons of refined products that would be flowing through this pipeline. And that is a sizeable number.”

Instagram For Kids: NC's Attorney General Tells Facebook No Thanks

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein is urging Facebook to abandon its plans to launch a version of Instagram for children under 13. In a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Attorney General Stein and a bipartisan coalition of 44 attorneys general say that social media is detrimental for children for multiple reasons including research that social media can be harmful to the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of children. Also, the problem of cyberbullying on Instagram. Then there’s the use of the platform by predators to target children. And, children’s lack of capacity to navigate the complexities of what they encounter online, including advertising, inappropriate content, and relationships with strangers.

Local Woman Says Police Bullet Accidentally Left In Her Body Popped Out

GASTONIA, N.C. – A bullet, unknowingly lodged in a local woman’s body for three years, suddenly popped through her skin Monday. 31-year-old Brittany Lynn was accidentally shot by Gastonia Police in 2018, but at the time, doctors said the bullet just grazed her skin.
She’s tried to move on from that day, but now wonders if the bullet no one knew was inside her has caused her illness over the past three years. Lynn says, “They was just telling me I was stable and they couldn’t find no bullets no where.” She also says, “(I’ve been) in and out the hospital had infection one time in my blood stream.” And, “I got shot up here (near her breast) and it came out right here (near her hip), so basically it’s been stuck for three years so it must’ve traveled.”

Disneyland's New Snow White Attraction Criticized For Old Scene

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Just days after Disneyland reopened with an updated Snow White attraction, the ride is receiving backlash. It has new lights, new laser projections, and new scenes, but it’s an old scene that is still in the attraction that is getting criticized.
The Snow White ride still showcases the iconic kiss from Prince Charming that happens as Snow White sleeps and “without her consent.”
SFGATE, an online newspaper, published a review of the new attraction, calling into question the issue of consent, saying in part, “Haven’t we already agreed that consent in early Disney movies is a major issue? That teaching kids that kissing, when it hasn’t been established if both parties are willing to engage, is not OK? Why not re-imagine an ending in keeping with the spirit of the movie and Snow White’s place in the Disney canon, but that avoids this problem?”
