severe shortage of new cars is set to continue into 2022 – rather than recover in the second half of this year as originally forecast – automotive industry leaders have warned.
The
slowdown of car assembly lines overseas is already being felt in Australia, which also may not fully recover for at least another six months.
Most Top 10 car brands in Australia have notified dealers in the past few weeks via
confidential bulletins to expect
the stock shortages to get worse before they get better.
While market leader Toyota says, for now, it remains largely unaffected because it has stockpiled semiconductors – a lesson it learned after recovering from earlier disasters which wiped out factories – other popular brands such as Hyundai, Kia, Nissan and Mitsubishi are being crippled with a shortage in vehicle supply. ....

VFACTS June 2021: New-car sales results show utes fill top three spots for second time in history

For only the second time in Australian automotive history,
utes filled the top three sales spots outright in a given month, with record Ford Ranger sales leading the market ahead of the Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max in June 2021.
The first time utes dominated the Top Three was in
June 2018, when the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger led the Mitsubishi Triton in third place.
According to official new-car sales figures released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, last month was
a weak June result but the strongest month since the start of the pandemic – as semiconductor shortages continued to slow deliveries and stretch waiting times. ....
