Australia Economy Shrinks as End to Recession-Free Run Looms
(Bloomberg) China announced that it was suspending a regular economic dialogue with Australia, in a largely symbolic move intended to signal Beijing’s growing frustration with Canberra.
The National Development and Reform Commission said in a statement Thursday it was indefinitely halting all activities under the China-Australia Strategic Economic Dialogue. While the two sides have held three rounds of talks under the mechanism since 2014, it hasn’t convened since September 2017.
The Australian dollar fell as much as 0.6% to 77 U.S. cents. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade didn’t immediate respond to a request for comment. ....

EUR/AUD price, news and analysis:
The outlook for EUR/AUD is bearish as commodity currencies such as the Australian Dollar benefit from the current global economic expansion after the contraction caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Australia produces many of the raw materials like iron ore, copper and aluminum that will be in demand as economic growth picks up, and that should benefit AUD against currencies such as EUR, CHF and JPY.

Australian PM Scott Morrison has placed a pause on all flights from India, but there is still a loophole travellers from the Covid-19-ravaged nation can use to bypass the ban.
The decision to pause flights came in a bid to reduce the number of infected travellers arriving in Australia, with hotel quarantine cases across the country skyrocketing in recent days.
