LANSING, Mich. —
Michigan avoided a severe flu season last year with the help of masks and social distancing measures but a new challenge is facing the state: low rates of vaccination for diseases other than COVID.
In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, many families stayed home, avoided contact with others, and delayed or canceled doctor’s appointments that weren’t critically important. The downside of those precautions is that typical childhood vaccinations have dipped.
Vaccinations across all childhood age groups, except for birth-dose hepatitis B vaccines, have declined in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Before 2019 about 67% of children aged five months and older were up-to-date on their vaccinations. In May 2020, it was less than half, 49.7 percent. ....

LANSING, Mich. – Starting Monday, all Michigan residents are welcome to schedule an appointment to get vaccinated at the Michigan State University Pavilion clinic operated by the Ingham County Health Department in partnership with the college. The site is a drive-thru only clinic, and appointments are available as early as this week.
The expansion in eligibility is made possible due to personnel support from the Department of Defense through a Federal Emergency Management Agency program. With additional personnel, ICHD anticipates shifting from vaccinating 1,600 people per day to 3,000-4,000 people per day. ....

The State News
The Food and Drug Administration issued a statement early Tuesday morning recommending to pause all Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines due to a rare blood clot, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, that could form in women who get the vaccine.
So far, six women between the ages of 18 and 48 have developed cases of CVST out of the 6.8 million people who have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, according to the statement. 
The Ingham County Health Department announced in a press release that they will be pausing the use of the Johns ....
