Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Chief Edith-Mike Ejezie, has said that only the party can guarantee the emergence of a south easterner as President of Nigeria in 2023.

Ejezie gave the assurance yesterday while addressing her supporters shortly after revalidating her membership of the APC at Ihite Ward 4, Ihiala Council of Anambra.
She charged APC members and Anambra people to ensure victory for the party at the November 6 gubernatorial election in the state, adding that Anambra would be better off under the ruling party at the centre.
Reminding Anambra people of the benefits of keying into the mainstream of national politics, she warned that they could no longer afford to be sidelined in the scheme of things at the national level. ....

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje at the weekend said the only way to prevent herders-farmers clash in Nigeria was to abolish the movement of herdsmen and cattle from North to the South.
He spoke in an interview with newsmen in Daura, Katsina State on Saturday.
He said his advocacy was that Nigeria should abolish the transportation or trekking of herdsmen from the northern part of Nigeria to the middle belt and to the southern part of the country.
According to him, there should be a law that would ban the movement of herdsmen and their cattle from the north to the south. ....

Former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Ike Ibe, yesterday, maintained that an Igbo presidency comes 2023 was best for Nigeria.

In his keynote address at a conference organised by South East 2023 Presidential Mandate in Enugu, Ibe who was also governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) during the 2019 general elections, added that allowing the South East to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor would advance the unity, even development, economic growth, stability progress.
He argued that since independence, the Igbo nation had continued to struggle for political identity and relevance, stating: “Until South Eastern leaders come together and genuinely work for a common goal, the quest for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction will once again elude them in 2023.” ....

Igbo not separating from Nigeria, Obiozor insists

President General (PG) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, yesterday, cautioned the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and all those championing the cause of separation from Nigeria, insisting that they should understand that Igbo nation was not at war with anyone or the rest of the country.

He specifically warned Kanu against his agitation for Biafra as a separatist state, stressing that such demand was beyond him, noting that Ndigbo has nothing pending before any institutional authority that demands a separate existence from Nigeria.
Addressing a press conference at the Ohanaeze secretariat in Enugu yesterday, the first since his election on January 10, 2021, Obiozor advised that all utterances and actions on account of Biafra must be avoided for diplomacy as a veritable tool. ....

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has praised the republican nature of the Ndigbo which he said was on display in the election of a renowned diplomat, Prof. George Obiozor, to lead the prestigious apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
The governor noted that with the election of Obiozor, Ndigbo are sending a strong messagethat they remain willing to find common grounds with any group ready to reciprocate their gesture.
He said the only thing left for the erudite Professor Obiozor, a former Nigerian ambassador to Cyprus, Israel and the United States to do is to chart a progressive path for Ohanaeze which would accommodate Nigeria’s diversity and democracy so that people of goodwill would cooperate with him. ....
