Thika, Kenya – To further advance the implementation of the Agenda for Sustainable Development and particularly Goals 4 of Quality Education, 16 of Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and 17 of Parnerships for Development, the Division for Peace of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) has entered a new strategic partnership with Mount Kenya University with the official signing ceremony having taken place on the 8th of March 2021 in the blended format. Both institutions, represented by Mr. Nikhil Seth, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and UNITAR Executive Director, and Mr. Deogratius Jaganyi, Vice-Chancellor, Mount Kneya University, signed a Memorandum of Understanding based on mutual trust and in spirit of cooperation. Our Ecosystem at Risk
A student’s study of bacteria in water suggests low levels of antibiotics could have an outsized impact

In early fall 2015, Corliss Kanazawa crouched at the edge of Hall’s Pond in Brookline, Massachusetts, and skimmed a test tube along the surface. Her shoes sloshing, Kanazawa (’16, SAR’18) took the sample back to a lab at the College of General Studies, where she is scrutinizing the pond’s tiniest residents the bacteria to learn how antibiotics may alter the ecology of our water.
Early results of her study, conducted with natural sciences lecturer Sandra Buerger (CAS’00) as part of a grant for undergraduate research from the Center for Interdisciplinary Teaching & Learning at CGS, suggest low levels of antibiotics could affect the types of bacteria that thrive in ecosystems like Hall’s Pond. ....

“Grace under pressure” that’s the phrase that most comes to mind when I think about Linda. When I was an untenured professor, I had the privilege of having Linda as the chair of my department, and I was always amazed by how effortlessly and graciously she juggled the demands of being an administrator, professor, and mother. She made it look easy; she never seemed rattled and she always had time for a chat. Even when we had to hire six or seven professors in one summer, she took the task lightly and actually made it fun for those of us on the search committee. ....
