Karen Lee “Flash” Edwards, 75, of Mingo Junction, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Sunday April 25, 2021 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.
She was born November 25, 1945 in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late William H. and Dorothy M. (Matthews) Edwards, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William H. “Squeeks” Edwards, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Sternsher.
Karen received her Bachelors Degree from Mt. Union College and her Master Degree from Mary Grove College. Karen was an elementary school teacher for the Indian Creek School District, retiring in 2008 and she is currently still substitute teaching. During her teaching career she was in charge of the student senate; created a school newspaper “Hills Character Gazette”; and was also the head of character education at the school, this was very important to her as it was her way of segmenting church into school. ....

RECOGNIZING A LEGACY OF SERVICE â The Indian Creek Foundation honored founding member Sophie Schoolcraft with a lifetime trustee award during a ceremony Wednesday morning inside the Mingo Junction City Building. She was presented the award by foundation chairman Jeff Greco. Also present were Indian Creek Superintendent T.C. Chappalear and Assistant Superintendent John Belt.
MINGO JUNCTION – Sophie Schoolcraft has served Mingo Junction and the Indian Creek School District in a variety of roles for most of her life.
Wednesday morning, her contributions were recognized by the Indian Creek Foundation in the form of a lifetime trustee award. ....

STEUBENVILLE – This coming week, Cookie West will carry on a tradition that started nine years ago after the tragic death of her son, Lee recognizing Jefferson County residents who go out of their way to make life better in their community.
Traditionally, the Lee Alexander West Spiritual Movement recognizes educators, first responders and community activists for their efforts to help those around them. Like everything else, West said they had to rethink it with the pandemic in mind so this year, instead of a centralized service, awards are being presented individually, on days and times of the recipient’s choosing. ....

Indian Creek will go remote on Wednesday | News, Sports, Jobs

WINTERSVILLE An increase in COVID-related quarantines has prompted Indian Creek Local School District to implement remote learning for the next week.
The district has provided face-to-face instruction with an option for students to study online at home and planned to keep schools open until the holiday break started Dec. 23, but officials announced Monday those plans had been altered. An all-call was put out to parents that afternoon indicating that all students would begin remote learning on Wednesday and continue through next Tuesday.
“The Indian Creek School District has made the decision to move instruction to 100-percent remote learning 2.0 on Wednesday,” said Superintendent T.C. Chappelear. “We still hope to return to school as scheduled on Jan. 4 but will monitor conditions and make any changes as necessary.” ....
