AN IMPORTANT NEW OPTION FOR FINANCING AFFORDABLE HOUSING 
The federal “9%” Housing Tax Credit (HTC) program, designed to finance up to 70% of qualified development costs, has for decades been the principal engine for the financing of low income housing in the United States. HTCs function like grants because the return to investors comes from the credits they take against their federal income tax liability over a ten-year period. Unfortunately, there is a limited supply of 9% HTCs and the allocation process, administered by state housing agencies, is highly competitive. 
While some tribally-designated housing entities (TDHEs) have been successful in obtaining 9% HTCs, most have not. Demand for the 9% HTCs far outstrips supply and many states’ criteria give preference to urban developments, making it difficult for tribes to file successful applications. These notices shall satisfy two separate but related procedural notification requirements for activities to be undertaken by the Karuk Tribe.
REQUEST FOR RELEASE OF FUNDS
On or about April 15, 2021 the Karuk Tribe will submit a request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the release of Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) funds under related laws (42 U.S.C. 5301, 24 CFR Part 1003, etc.), as amended, to undertake a project known as the “Anavkaam Center Renovation Project” in the community of Happy Camp, California. The Karuk Tribe is requesting a $1,500,000 grant from HUD ICDBG program to renovate and expand the Anavkaam Center (Translation: Big Medicine) building at the Karuk Tribe Administrative Complex. ....

LANSING The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians $291,767 for affordable housing, the department announced Friday.
HUD announced more than $652 million in Indian Housing Block Grant formula funding for eligible Native American tribes and tribally designated housing entities to carry out affordable housing activities in tribal communities. This includes nearly $15 million for 12 tribes in Michigan. ....
