MONTVILLE, Conn. The new titleholders for Miss Connecticut and Miss Connecticut s Outstanding Teen for 2021 were crowned this past weekend at Mohegan Sun. 
They are the first to be crowned in two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the postponement of the 2020 competition.
Miss Connecticut 2021 is Sapna Raghavan, of Ellington, and Miss Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen 2021 is Aicha Diallo, of West Haven.  ....

Qatar- Artists capture beauty in motion in diverse artworks

Doha: A spirited stallion running swiftly, a captivating artiste dancing gracefully, and a luminous galaxy swirling magnificently are some of the subjects of stunning art pieces on show at the Art in Motion exhibition currently running at Katara Art Centre.
The artworks were a product of the creativity of 16 Doha-based artists hailing from various nationalities displaying unique styles in creating their pieces using various media. 
Ubiquitous in Arab culture, horses are an important part of life in the Arab world. They have been subjects of numerous literary pieces and embodied in countless works of art. The exhibition is no exception as three artists immortalize the image of horses on canvas using varying styles.  ....

Dear India Currents,
I penned a thoughtful article on BLM to celebrate Feb as Black History Month. This is an honest attempt to contribute through Indian Classical dance to the movement. Many asked me to write about this for a long time. February is the ideal time.
We need to understand Black history, and learning more about systemic racism is essential as our country faces backlash to civil rights activists such as the George Floyd protests. We should know Black History Month and how to celebrate it appropriately. The second week of February coincides with Frederick Douglass’s birthdays, a famed abolitionist who escaped from slavery, and President Abraham Lincoln, who formally abolished slavery. Feb. 1 is National Freedom Day, the anniversary of the approval of the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery in 1865. Richard Wright, who was enslaved and became a civil rights advocate and author, lobbied for the day’s celebration. ....

Though it does have its positives, the guru-shishya tradition unfortunately stops us from moving towards a more progressive and open community, where constructive discussions can take place without fearing consequences.

The obvious takeaway from the discussion surrounding #MeToo in the Indian classical music and dance community has been the lack of awareness people have about the subject, the lack of initiatives being taken by organisations and artistes to raise their voices, and the clear existence of a power imbalance that has led to a community of enablers. ....
