Swedish furniture major IKEA, which has a range of over 1,000 products as part of its children s range, is looking to scale up sourcing of toys from India for its operations here, a top company official said.
IKEA India also aims to have around 12 percent of sales from kids range of products in the coming years.
The company, which currently sources only cotton-based soft toys from India, is also exploring to expand in some other categories such as wooden toys, said IKEA India Country Commercial Manager Kavitha Rao. ....

Toy industry globally is a $90 billion-market and Indian market size is about $ 1.7 billion, he said.
India imports $1.2 billion worth of toys annually, mostly from China and the toy cluster being developed is to raise domestic manufacturing.
China exports $20 billion worth of toys and recreation goods annually, he said. ....

The Government of India is organizing The India Toy Fair, 2021 from 27th February 2021 to 2nd March 2021 on a virtual platform. This initiative is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of making India a global hub for the Toy Industry.

The Fair aims to provide an impetus to the underlying themes of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “vocal for local” campaigns, launched by the Government to promote indigenous industries. It also aims to leverage the potential of toys in making learning joyful across all ages in education. ....
