Indian commentators are acknowledging that keeping a distance from the Afghan Taliban was a mistake. Now that India has closed down its consulates in Kandahar, Jalalabad and Herat, they are realizing that there are no permanent friends or enemies – only national interests matter.
The second lesson for India and everyone else is to avoid undermining one s adversaries if a temporary gain at the diplomatic level has been achieved, such as the one gained by India in Afghanistan after 9/11.
Significantly, three thousand Indians have been withdrawn from Afghanistan, which is the highest number India has had anywhere associated with its diplomatic missions abroad. However, some personnel were involved in developmental projects in the country. ....

Indian FM delivers Modi’s message to Raisi

TEHRAN Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar made a stopover in Tehran on Wednesday afternoon and held a meeting with Iran s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.
Jaishankar visited Tehran to present Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi’s written message to Iranian President-elect Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
Zarif and Jaishankar discussed developments in Afghanistan and exchanged views about the nuclear talks in Vienna aimed to revive the Iran nuclear deal, officially called the JCPOA.
On the issue of Afghanistan, both sides emphasized that intra-Afghan talks are the only way to solve the current crisis. Jaishankar also thanked Zarif for hosting Taliban and Afghanistan government’s delegations for peace talks. ....

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has gone back to Moscow after concluding his visit to the subcontinent First India and then Pakistan. His next journey will be to Tehran on April 13, 2021.
His visit to India and Pakistan is considered by Russian Think Tanks as a “re-adjustment of Moscow’s orientation in the region”.
It is time to review what strengths and weaknesses Moscow is considering in its relations with India and Pakistan.
