New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Suga Yoshihide held a telephonic conversation on Tuesday during which they discussed deepening collaboration bilaterally as well as under the Quad framework to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

After scrapping an agreement to develop a strategic East Container Terminal (ECT) at the Colombo port with help from India and Japan, the Sri Lankan government has decided to offer the West Container Terminal (WCT) to Indian and Japanese companies.
According to the Sri Lankan government’s department of information, the Lankan cabinet “has approved the proposal to develop the West Container Terminal on Build, Operate and Transfer basis for a period of 35 years as a public-private partnership with Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited and its local representative John Keels Holding PLC, and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.” ....

India, France and Japan strategic triangle strongly backs Indo-Pacific vision

India sees the Indo-Pacific as a seamless interface of the Indian and Pacific Oceans from the western coast of North America to the eastern shores of Africa.
Over 50 per cent of global trade traverses this maritime domain which is also home to over 60% of the world’s population and the global GDP.
New Delhi: In growing convergences between India, France and Japan s strategic triangle , all the three countries have strongly backed the Indo-Pacific vision which has increasingly gained currency within democratic nations of the region and around the world.
Speaking at a virtual event, India s Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla said, India, France and Japan are leading stakeholders in the region and with other like-minded countries, it is upon us to ensure that the Indo-Pacific remains peaceful and open, taking into account needs and concerns of all its inhabitants. ....

India, Japan ink pact to enhance cooperation in ICT

NEW DELHI: India and Japan on Friday signed a pact to enhance cooperation in the field of information and communications technology (ICT) with focus on aspects like 5G, telecom security and submarine optical fibre cable.
According to an official release, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Minister for Communications, Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad and Japanese Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Takeda Ryota. ....
