INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A big jump in Indiana’s state tax collections over the past few months announced by state officials Wednesday will result in a refund for taxpayers, although they’ll have to wait until next year for that money. ....

Surplus exceeds forecast; also to benefit pension relief

INDIANAPOLIS – Hoosier taxpayers will get a refund after state coffers ended the fiscal year with nearly $4 billion in the bank, state officials said Wednesday.
The larger-than-expected surplus triggers the automatic taxpayer refund already in statute that has only been used one other time in 2012.
State Auditor Tera Klutz said Indiana has strong reserves and a balanced budget that increased funding for education and public safety.
“On top of all of that we are going to give Indiana taxpayers back some of their money,” she said. ....
