KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 The Human Resources Ministry has countered Indonesia’s request for domestic helpers from the country to be employed under a “one maid, one task” system.

MalaysiaKini said that Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan instead proposed during an online meeting with Indonesia’s Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah to retain the existing system of one domestic helper to be employed by one household for all required tasks. ....

Malaysia and Indonesia to meet over maids MOU

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and Indonesia will resume fresh talks towards signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on recruitment and placement of domestic helpers, says Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
The Human Resources Minister said he participated in a virtual discussion with his Indonesian counterpart, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah, on May 6 to express the intention of both sides to proceed with the negotiations virtually.
“The discussion with the Indonesians was to resume talks to finalise the MOU on the recruitment and placement of Indonesian domestic helpers as soon as possible,” he said in a statement yesterday. ....

Research: masculine offices add to the burden of female office workers during COVID-19 pandemic


The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects of life, including the lives of female workers.
My (Kanti Pertiwi) yet-to-be-published research shows Indonesian female workers have faced similar challenges. Interviews with 96 female office workers aged between 20 and 50, conducted over June, July and August last year, found the mental burden on working women grew during the pandemic.
The situation was worse for women working in masculine office cultures, where male perspectives were promoted and women’s needs sidelined or ignored. These offices represent what we call masculine organisations.
A growing mental burden
Nearly half of Indonesia’s population are women but the female workforce participation rate is still low, at 53% in 2019. This means that of all women of working age, only half are actually working. Nearly 40% of female workers work in the formal sector, including office workers. ....
