2 Summit County residents died from COVID-19 in February


Two more Summit County residents have died from COVID-19, according to a news release from Summit County Public Health. The deaths occurred on Feb. 5 and 6. There have now been a total of at least six deaths in Summit County from COVID-19, according to Summit Daily News records.
There are discrepancies between the state and county’s death statistics and previous reporting by the Summit Daily. The county’s website currently lists seven total deaths
among COVID-19 cases, however the Summit Daily previously has reported four deaths due to COVID-19 in addition to two individuals who were positive for COVID-19 but died of other causes the same information provided by the county in a news release Dec. 28 ....

Colorado death data show COVID's hidden toll


“What’s there to live for? Why am I here?”
That’s what one 86-year-old man living alone in Thornton recently told Jayla Sanchez-Warren, who leads a regional agency on aging, as she tried to help him get vaccinated against COVID-19.
“He was struggling to get a vaccine and was frustrated. His wife had died, I think three years ago. He didn’t have family in the area,” she said. “He was feeling this malaise.”
She said his despair is a typical symptom of a “failure to thrive,” a term many experts in aging use to describe what they’ve been seeing a lot of this past year of the pandemic. Other symptoms include isolation, loneliness and depression. That’s often followed by a lack of desire, or inability to eat, or get nutritious food for yourself. ....
