The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said an intense spell of rain over Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar is likely to continue till August 15.
The monsoon’s northward journey has weakened due to several local conditions. Weather experts believe that the weakening of monsoon for the several northwest parts of the country started from June 21 and it is likely to weaken further.

IMD said that Delhi and parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan will have to wait till July for the first monsoonal rains.
The weather department also said India has received 28 percent excess rainfall during the monsoon season so far.
IMD also added that isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over most parts of northwest India in the week ending June 30.
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday (June 24, 2021) said that Delhi and parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan will have to wait till July for the first monsoonal rains. The IMD officials revealed that as per the latest weather trends the wind system is unlikely to cover the region in the next seven days. The Met department also added that the northern limit of the southwest monsoon currently passes through Barmer, Bhilwara, Dholpur, Aligarh, Meerut, Ambala and Amritsar.
The present weather conditions are likely to bring showers in various parts of the state, with varied intensity. The trough (a type of low-pressure area) from cyclonic circulation over east-central Arabian Sea and neighbourhood to north Konkan has become less marked, the IMD said
