Local pastor has been building guitars as a passion for years, hopes his craftsmanship will one day sustain him in ministry


As a luthier, he spends from 150 to 200 hours making each guitar.
“It all depends on the level of detail and decoration that a person wants,” Dease said. “Certain models require additional bending of the wood.”
He has completed his 19th guitar and is working on Nos. 20-24.
Dease lives in Advance with his wife, Jamie, and their infant daughter. He has been a pastor at Macedonia Moravian Church since 2016.
He started building guitars in 2014, a few years after inheriting a workshop of machinery and tools when his maternal grandfather, Everette Edwards, died in 2008. The shop machinery, hand tools, clamps and some toolboxes were a gift from his grandmother, Ethelene Edwards of Winston-Salem. ....

Mobility and accessibility options explored at Convention Center vaccine site


With Mesa County Public Health moved into the Grand Junction Convention Center for large-scale vaccine distribution, figuring out logistics for everyone getting the vaccine can be tricky. For disabled members of the community, walking through the convention center doors may not be an option.
Mesa County Public Health spokesperson Amanda Mayle said that early in testing they would go offsite for people who needed it and did not rule out doing the same for vaccines under certain circumstances.
“The elevator was part of the design at the Convention Center,” she said and they also have wheelchairs and walkers on-site for people who need them. ....

How many COVID-19 vaccines have been wasted so far across Texas?


DALLAS, Tx (WFAA) - Texas COVID-19 vaccine locations are wasting about .06% of all shipped doses, according to state officials.
On Friday, the Texas Department of State Health Services released its first report on doses that have been wasted. 
Health officials say of the 3,164,150 doses shipped across the state, 1,752 have been wasted.
Dallas and Harris counties have received the most vaccines doses among all Texas counties.
There are nine Dallas County locations currently working with the state to provide COVID-19 vaccine shots. They have received 173,325 doses and wasted 88. That comes out to .05%.
The most total wasted vaccines in Dallas County happened at the Children s Medical Center of Dallas. This facility lost 27 of its 20,200 doses (.13%). ....

Cuban plane at Key West International Airport could become artificial reef


The old Cubana de Aviación plane at the end of the runway at Key West International Airport has served many purposes since it was hijacked and brought here in 2003, and it could have one more use as it is far too old and in disrepair to ever fly again.
Capt. Joe Weatherby has set his sights on the aging Russian-made plane and said he has clients who are interested in sinking the plane as an artificial reef. Weatherby operates Reef Builders, which organized the 2011 sinking of the USNS Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg off Key West.
The Cuban plane would not be sunk locally, as the light-weight aluminum used to construct planes does not do well in salt water, Weatherby said. ....
