The Saskatchewan Trucking Association is glad to see truck drivers based in Saskatchewan receive their COVID vaccines in North Dakota.
It comes after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the province and the state to allow for roughly 2,000 truck drivers to receive the vaccine.
STA Executive Director Susan Ewart says there’s been very little transmission among the trucking community.
“If you think about what’s going on in Saskatchewan today and with transmission increasing and those variants happening, and access to vaccines, this is definitely a great move between Saskatchewan and North Dakota for them to provide us some assistance to help get more people vaccinated.” ....

NORTH DAKOTA AND SASKATCHEWAN SIGN AGREEMENT TO VACCINATE ESSENTIAL WORKERS

Premier Scott Moe and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to vaccinate essential workers who are transporting goods across the United States and Canadian border.  Approximately 2,000 Saskatchewan residents will be eligible for the program.
Trade with the United States is essential for the Saskatchewan economy, Moe said.  These essential workers are crossing the border to ensure our residents and those in the United States have access to the goods and services they need to get through this pandemic.  This extraordinary level of cooperation helps protect more Canadians at a time when vaccine availability in America exceeds that of Canada, and we thank Governor Burgum for working with our province to make this happen. ....

Sask., North Dakota setting up border crossing vaccine sites for truckers

The North Dakota Department of Health will provide the staff and infrastructure to administer vaccinations. There will be no cost for the vaccination program to either the State of North Dakota or the Province of Saskatchewan, as the United States government provides vaccine and reimburses the cost of administering vaccine.

“Trade with the United States is essential for the Saskatchewan economy,” Moe said.  “These essential workers are crossing the border to ensure our residents and those in the United States have access to the goods and services they need to get through this pandemic. This extraordinary level of cooperation helps protect more Canadians at a time when vaccine availability in America exceeds that of Canada, and we thank Governor Burgum for working with our province to make this happen.” ....

The Saskatchewan Trucking Association is calling for voluntary COVID-19 testing at the Canada-U.S. border instead of mandatory tests.
Executive Director Susan Ewart says mandatory tests would create shipping delays at the border.
“We’re not supporting not-testing, but we want to look at voluntary testing away from the borders at different locations so as to alleviate congestion and make sure that our goods are moving through there.”
Ewart says there’s been no word of COVID-19 spreading from truckers coming back from the U.S.
“They have done a very good job on risk mitigating that spread of COVID-19, and there’s a very secure work group for truck drivers at this particular point.” ....
