Have scientists discovered a new force of nature? "Something else is going on," Neil DeGrasse Tyson says

Have scientists discovered a new force of nature? Something else is going on, Neil DeGrasse Tyson says

New study challenges laws of physics
A tiny particle, invisible to the naked eye, could expand our understanding of the natural world, according to scientists at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois.
The particle in question is called a muon. Similar to an electron, it releases a negative charge, but a muon is much heavier and exists at a higher energy level than its more familiar counterpart.
A team of 200 physicists from seven different countries observed muons as they were shot through a magnetic field. The particle did not behave as they expected it to. ....

Recent Reports Of Overturned Scientific Theory Are Premature

Recent news reports claimed that perhaps modern physics is incorrect and needs to be revisited. A recent new calculation differs from the old calculation and agrees with measurement. Scientists are trying to understand the differences between the two predictions. ....

A Canadian MP has apologised for appearing stark naked during a parliamentary Zoom meeting two weeks after a similar blooper left a member of the National House of Traditional Leaders red-faced in SA.
William Amos issued the apology after a screenshot of him standing between the Quebec and Canadian flags holding a mobile phone over his private parts during the meeting found its way onto social media.

Daunte Wright: The problematic design of Taser stun guns — Quartz

April 16, 2021
Kimberly Potter, the 26-year police veteran who fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop in Minnesota on April 11, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors will be tasked to prove to the courts that she was negligent in drawing and firing her Glock pistol instead of her Taser stun gun when subduing the 20-year old.
A widely scrutinized body-cam video shows Potter yelling “Taser! Taser! Taser!
“ before firing a bullet into Wright’s chest which killed him on the scene. Beneath what appears to be another appalling accidental shooting actually belies a complex, systemic issue at the core of America’s problematic, hyper-aggressive policing philosophy. This ethos is ultimately reflected in the design of standard tools law enforcement officers carry and how they use them. It’s bigger than an industrial design problem, but it’s certainly part of the issue. ....

“If you jump onto and then down from a carousel, you can steal energy from the carousel,” says co-author Salvatore Vitale. “These bosons do the same thing to a black hole.”Jose-Luis Olivares, MIT
Two known black holes are spinning too quickly to have ever been impacted by the hypothetical particle known as ultralight bosons, proving that, between two certain masses, the particles don’t exist, according to new research by an MIT astrophysicist. ....
