Do you care for a family member or friend that has a disability?
Would you like to assist people with physical impairments and make sure everyone is equally valued in the county?
These are the questions Laois man Leo Kavanagh is posing to people living locally who would like to be part of a new group.
He explains what he and others are trying to achieve.
Physically impaired friends and I am hoping to set up an organisation/group, that by listening to the voice of disabled people and strengthening their voice here in Laois can assist people with disabilities in the future, he says. ....

3D printing solved Matty's deodorant problem and brought two friends together

His friend Murphy used his school break times to design and 3D print a deodorant holder
The boys were introduced through a program aimed at bringing together students from mainstream and support schools
His shortened limbs make one part of the getting-ready process pretty hard  putting on deodorant.
It s a bit hard to get it under my arms, I was struggling, he said.
That was until his new friend, 13-year-old Murphy Mansfield created a device that could help. ....

New ADA Transition Plan will guide Oregon State Parks improvement projects


A new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan guides Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) in removing physical barriers to park access over the next 25 years.
The ADA Transition Plan identifies barriers to parks and park programs for people with disabilities, and provides a roadmap for removing them. Identified barriers range from inaccessible picnic areas and restroom facilities to parking lots with limited accessible parking. The plan calls for remediation efforts to begin in July 2021.
“OPRD has already made great strides in providing access for people with disabilities, but there’s much more to be done,” said ADA Coordinator Helena Kesch. “The ADA Transition Plan moves the agency forward in improving parks so people with disabilities can enjoy them to the fullest. This aligns us with the law, and it’s also the right thing to do.” ....
