US Sanctions Chinese, UAE-Based Companies Over Sale of Iranian Petrochemicals
The United States on Dec. 16 said it has imposed sanctions on several companies that have been involved in the export of Iranian petrochemical products, accusing them of financing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force and its terrorist proxies.
The U.S. Department of Treasury said in a press release that it clamped down on United Arab Emirates-based companies Alpha Tech Trading FZE and Petroliance Trading FZE; and Chinese-based companies Donghai International Ship Management Ltd. and Petrochem South East Ltd.
“These China- and United Arab Emirates-based companies have provided [Triliance Petrochemical Co. Ltd.] with critical shipping services or conducted financial transactions on behalf of the company, enabling Triliance to continue brokering and moving Iranian petrochemical exports,” the department said in a release. ....

Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry has voiced regret about a US decision to sanction a Vietnamese company for working with the Islamic Republic, saying trade relations between Vietnam and Iran are “strictly civilian.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the US Treasury announced that it has targeted Vietnam Gas and Chemicals Transportation Corporation for its role in the transport of petroleum products from Iran.
“The United States will act against persons who support illicit actors engaged in the movement of Iranian petroleum and petrochemical sales,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin claimed in the statement. ....

Dec. 17 (UPI) The United States has blacklisted several companies in China, Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates, accusing them of dealing in Iranian petrochemicals as the Trump administration continues with its maximum pressure campaign in its final weeks in office.
The Treasury announced sanctions against four entities two in China and two in the UAE for facilitating the export of petrochemical products by Triliance Petrochemical Co., which was designated by the Trump administration in January. ....

HANOI Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday it regretted a U.S. decision to sanction a Vietnamese company relating to the transport of petroleum products from Iran.
“Trade relations between Vietnam and Iran are strictly civilian and involve goods that would serve the essential needs of people and are not in contrary to the resolutions of the UN,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang told a daily press briefing.

Vietnam requested the U.S. Thursday to lift sanctions imposed on a Vietnamese petrochemical corporation, rejecting allegations it broke U.N. resolutions on Iran.
The U.S. Department of State said Wednesday it was imposing sanctions on the Vietnam Gas and Chemicals Transportation Corporation for knowingly engaging, on or after November 5, 2018, in a significant transaction for the transport of petroleum products from Iran. ....
