HUBBALLI: The central government having announced that vaccination will be administered to anyone aged above 18 from May 1, there is concern among stakeholders in the healthcare sector over a possible downturn in blood donation, since people are not to donate blood for 28 days after taking the jab, many NGOs and blood banks have launched campaigns in Hubballi to collect as much blood through voluntary donation drives before a significant chunk of the demographic is inoculated.
Founder-chairman of Shirdi Sai Darbar Blood Donors Anil Kumar Miskin said that they had held a series of voluntary donation camps during the lockdown last year at the Premabindu Blood Bank. “We are arranging vehicles to pick up and drop donors. We are convincing most people to volunteer to donate blood before they take the jab since we are witnessing a spike in demand,” Miskin told TOI. ....
