EUGENE, Ore. – The man hit and killed by a train in Eugene on April 2 has been identified.
Police say Kevin Purkerson, 55, of Creswell was struck near Chambers Street and Railroad Boulevard just before 3 p.m.
He was reportedly walking west in the middle of the tracks when a train came up behind him. The train blew its whistle multiple times and activated its emergency brakes. Officials say the train was following the speed limit prior to the collision. ....

EUGENE A pedestrian died after being hit by a train Friday in Eugene.
At 2:44 p.m., a man was reported to have been walking on the train tracks and was hit by an oncoming train near Chambers Street and Railroad Boulevard, KATU (2) reported.
The man, who was in his mid-50s, appeared not to hear the train, which had activated its horn and whistle and applied emergency breaks.
Eugene police responded to investigate. The train line’s traffic was stopped.
The Lane County Medical Examiner responded to take jurisdiction. Police are withholding the man’s identity until his family has been notified. ....

A man in his mid-50s was killed Friday afternoon while walking on the train tracks near Chambers Street and Railroad Boulevard on Friday afternoon, Eugene Police Department reported.
An oncoming train activated its horn and whistle, and applied emergency breaks in the incident that occurred at 2:44 p.m.
The man appeared not to hear and was struck, according to Eugene Police. Officers responded to investigate and traffic on the train line was stopped for incidence response. The Lane County Medical Examiner took jurisdiction.
The man s name will not be public until his family has been notified.
