LAHORE:The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) is all set to start construction of two underground water reservoirs in busy commercial localities which may also be used for public parking in off season.
Sources in the agency revealed that approval for funds for eight tanks had already been accorded by the cabinet committee. These tanks will be constructed on Waris Road, Karim Park, Railways Station, Cooper Road, Sheranwala Gate, Kashmir Road and Tajpura.
Sources said approval for two tank projects to be constructed at Sheranwala Gate and Kashmir Road was already accorded by DDWP under the supervision of the commissioner Lahore. ....

Wasa needs $50m to upgrade drainage, water systems: MD

LAHORE:Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) needed financial assistance of around $50 million for implementing a sustainable solution to replace and upgrade Lahore’s overall drainage and water systems to solve the existing problems.
This was told by Wasa’s Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz on Thursday during an online meeting with the World Bank’s IFC Wing. The meeting was held to discuss Wasa’s plan of upgrading water supply and drainage systems of the provincial metropolis.
Agency’s MD told the meeting that a financial assistance of $50 million was required to upgrade the system. Syed Zahid Aziz told the World Bank’s delegation that ample opportunities were available for international banks to invest in water projects in Lahore. ....

Cropping up as a stark reminder of the civic agencies blatant disregard towards vulnerabilities of the consumers, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) created an acute water shortage for a large segment of Hyderabad s population by Sunday. The situation, which stemmed from rupture in main pipelines of 18 inch diameter a week ago in Qasimabad, persisted through Monday evening.
Another pipeline of the same size in Qasimabad went burst some days ago, further compounding the problem.
The pressure of the water supply for almost all of Qasimabad was lowered a week ago, and on Saturday the supply was halted altogether. ....

WASA crackdown on defaulters

Rawalpindi:Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi on Monday launched a crackdown against the defaulters and sealed 12 services stations.
Talking to APP Director General WASA, Raja Shoukat Mehmood said that action in accordance with the law was being taken against the water bill defaulters. He informed that today an operation was conducted in Pirwadhai, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed and College Road areas under the supervision of Senior Special Magistrate Amir Ishfaq and 12 service stations were sealed in Pirwadhai area while their water pumps were also confiscated.
The DG further informed that two raids were also conducted at under construction plazas in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed and College Road areas and the team took action in accordance with the law. ....
