ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL Like every other municipality in Illinois, Arlington Heights has been dealing with its own unique data points regarding the coronavirus. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, 105 people have died due to COVID-19 in Arlington Heights since April 8. That marks seven new deaths since our last report on Dec. 31, 2020. For further comparison, there was one additional death between Dec. 24-31. The most deaths in a single day since the start of the outbreak was six on May 23. ....

DEERFIELD, IL Like every other municipality in Illinois, the Village of Deerfield has been dealing with its own unique data points regarding the coronavirus. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 1,407 people have contracted COVID-19 in Deerfield since the outbreak began. That s an increase of 70 cases since Patch s last report on Dec. 31, 2020. For further comparison, there was an increase of 72 cases between Dec. 24-31.
The Lake County Health Department reports there have been 47,123 confirmed cases in Lake County. That s an increase of 1,715 cases since Dec. 31. For further comparison, there was an increase of 1,522 cases between Dec. 24-31. In addition, there have been 777 deaths, marking an increase of 19 since Dec. 31. For further comparison, there was an increase of 42 deaths between Dec. 24-31. ....

With 2020 just in the rear-view mirror, there are hopes for something better in 2021. And while the coronavirus and the resulting pandemic made last year horrible for most, it could have been worse. That’s hard to imagine, but it’s so. There could have been more deaths, more suffering.
But because of modern technology, schools have been able to go virtual with remote online learning. It’s not been an easy adjustment, but thanks to the miracle workers we call teachers, laptops and Zoom meetings have become as familiar as chalkboards were in the old days. Imagine if this pandemic had happened 30 years ago. ....
