Doha: The dean of a Qatar Foundation Partner University has taken a journey to personally congratulate each graduating engineer from its Class of 2021. 
César Octavio Malavé, dean of Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), helped graduating students celebrate a special time in their lives by visiting each of them at their homes and presenting them with their engineering degrees, with his trip taking place from May 9 – 13. 
TAMUQ graduated 107 engineers on May 5, with its Class of 2021 including 89 Aggies who received bachelor degrees in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and petroleum engineering. ....

National Merit Scholarships: 3 Polk County seniors recognized


Patel is going to the University of South Florida, majoring in computer science. He plans to become a software engineer.
Landreth will attend the University of Florida as a member of the Honors Program and Undergraduate Research Scholars Program.
I plan to major in Business Management, with a minor in nonprofit organizational leadership, with hopes of working in the nonprofit field after college, Landreth said.
In September, All Saints Academy senior Nadia Shahin was named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program and received a scholarship this month.
Shahin is an AP Scholar and Lyceum Scholar at All Saints and plays varsity tennis and golf and volunteers at Lakeland Regional Health and the YMCA.  ....

Women made up 57 percent of the graduating class, while graduates represented 19 nationalities.

Texas A&M University at Qatar, a Qatar Foundation partner university, graduated 107 engineers yesterday. The Class of 2021 included 89 Aggies who received bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering.
Twenty-two graduates were recognized as Undergraduate Research Scholars of Texas A&M’s main campus in College Station, Texas (USA), and 35 students graduated with Latin honours.
Texas A&M at Qatar also awarded 18 master’s degrees in chemical engineering. Of the total graduating class, 57 percent is female and 51 percent are Qatari. Graduates represented 19 nationalities. To date, Texas A&M at Qatar has granted a total of 1,268 degrees. ....

Tulane awarded nearly $1M for research that impacts industry, workforce
The Tulane University Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) has received a nearly $1 million grant to fund research infrastructure that will encourage more collaborations across Tulane and the region in material sciences.
The five-year $996,981 grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents will also fund a new undergraduate research program in the School of Science and Engineering to promote a high-tech workforce in Louisiana and the Gulf South.
“This project will significantly support collaborations with partners in local industry to translate academic research to industrial practice, which will have a positive impact on Louisiana’s economy,” said Hank Ashbaugh, a professor of chemical engineering at Tulane. ....
