HEC reiterates unofficial two-year degrees not to be recognised

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Thursday clarified that they have not deferred the four-year BS or two-year associate degree programmes that have already started at a majority of affiliated colleges across Pakistan.
The regulatory body pointed out that the implementation of the Undergraduate Education Policy 2020 has been deferred at some universities until the fall of 2022 on the request of the Vice Chancellors Committee.
The HEC said the universities that have already adopted the education policy can continue its implementation. On August 12 last year the commission had informed universities to adopt the policy through normal procedure not later than January 2021. ....

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) cleared up its remaining routine tasks during this most non-routine of years at its last regular meeting of the academic year on Tuesday afternoon. Many of the prior meetings had been largely given over to hearing reports, but significant academic action was taken in the April session, when the new doctoral program in quantum science and engineering was approved.
Today, at the request of the faculty’s docket committee, President Lawrence S. Bacow, Provost Alan Garber, and FAS dean Claudine Gay spelled out the steps Harvard and the FAS have taken to prevent any recurrence of the University’s engagement with individuals like the convicted sex offender (and donor) Jeffrey Epstein, including promulgation of the first public gift policy, steps to assure its enforcement, and changes in the way the faculty grants visiting fellowships (of the sort improperly granted Epstein). ....

The Higher Education Commission (Amendment) Ordinance 2021, promulgated by the government last month, has severely dented the pro-youth and pro-reforms credentials of the ruling PTI.
The PTI emerged as the largest parliamentary party in the 2018 elections largely on the back of sentiment among the urban middle classes, particularly the youth, against perceived corruption, misuse of power and inefficient public service delivery.
