Faculty of Arts and Sciences Rule Changes Teaching Awards

Photograph by Bostonian13/Wikipedia.

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) cleared up its remaining routine tasks during this most non-routine of years at its last regular meeting of the academic year on Tuesday afternoon. Many of the prior meetings had been largely given over to hearing reports, but significant academic action was taken in the April session, when the new doctoral program in quantum science and engineering was approved.
Today, at the request of the faculty’s docket committee, President Lawrence S. Bacow, Provost Alan Garber, and FAS dean Claudine Gay spelled out the steps Harvard and the FAS have taken to prevent any recurrence of the University’s engagement with individuals like the convicted sex offender (and donor) Jeffrey Epstein, including promulgation of the first public gift policy, steps to assure its enforcement, and changes in the way the faculty grants visiting fellowships (of the sort improperly granted Epstein).

Demba Ba: Former Chelsea star looking for new club to 'find joy'

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba has revealed he is searching for a new club where he can find joy again.

Demba Ba reveals reason behind Istanbul Basaksehir departure

"They said it was down to the fact they thought the coach would not play me much for the rest of the season," Ba told Sky Sports.
"Because of the name I have and the respect they have for it they decided to terminate my contract early.
"But I think it's more that sometimes I probably have a character that is too strong - I don't hesitate to speak my mind and it doesn't work every time.
"I had a talk with the coach in his office a few weeks ago about many things and I was probably too strong with him that day.

Steven Gerrard's slip for Liverpool vs Chelsea happened exactly seven years ago

Steven Gerrard endured his lowest point in football exactly seven years ago.
On April 27, 2014, Liverpool welcomed Chelsea to Anfield with their first Premier League title firmly within their grasp.
Brendan Rodgers' side were in pole position to win the title going into the game.
Liverpool held a three-point advantage over Manchester City with three matches to go.
While a win would have been the preferred outcome, a draw would also have sufficed.
A loss, however, meant that winning the title would no longer be in their hands.
Liverpool dominated much of the possession in the first half but they fell behind just before the break.

"Hey! This does not f*****g slip!"
- Steven Gerrard
Football is a funny sport. On some days, it's just a group of people thumping a ball around for 90 minutes. On other days, it's a perfect story, filled with poetic twists and turns.
Liverpool's meeting with Chelsea on April 27, 2014 fell into that second category, but pretty much every twist and turn went against them.

To fully appreciate what went down that day, we have to travel back a few weeks to the date of that opening Steven Gerrard quote, April 13. Liverpool welcomed Manchester City to Anfield, in what was seen as a must-win for both sides. City had a few games in hand over Liverpool, and defeat would have taken destiny out of the Reds' hands.

In Saturday’s encounter between the Reds and the Magpies at Anfield, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Mohamed Salah had given the hosts a third-minute lead before substitute Joseph Willock ensured that the match ended on a no winner, no vanquished note.

Tuanzebe's turn
It is telling Axel Tuanzebe's only appearances since the morale-shattering defeat to Sheffield United were against Everton and Real Sociedad. In the former fixture, Tuanzebe clumsily conceded the free-kick Everton equalised from in the 96th minute and he was introduced at the interval of the second leg against Sociedad with United still 4-0 up on aggregate.

Newcastle United’s new sponsor, short-term lending company Wonga, is getting plenty of attention, but probably not the kind they’d like.
The Premier League club and the sponsor, who’ve signed a deal worth £24m over four years, has been criticised by the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) for breaching Sharia law.
Although a legal business, Wonga’s charge of 4,214 per cent annual interest on loans which can be given over the web within 15 minutes is in breach of the Muslim law, which forbids followers from benefitting from lending or receiving money from someone.

Aboubakar, Ghezzal bag assist, Ba scores as Besiktas see off Istanbul Basaksehir

Algeria international Ghezzal also featured prominently in the encounter while former Senegal international Ba scored for the Gray Owls but his effort was not enough to help his side avoid defeat.
The game started with both sides aiming to get an early goal but not until the 42nd minute did Besiktas open the scoring.
Aboubakar set up Cyle Larin with a fine pass and the 25-year-old made judicious use of the opportunity, firing his effort beyond the reach of goalkeeper Volkan Babacan.
Deniz Turuc levelled proceedings for Istanbul Basaksehir in the 50th minute after receiving an assist from Danijel Aleksic.
