Little Parndon Primary Academy pupils support young carers

Pupils at Little Parndon Primary Academy, in Harlow, supported Young Carers Action Day by wearing funky socks.
The day was used to raise awareness among pupils about what a young carer is, how to let the school know if they believe they have a carer role and the support available to those taking care of someone at home.
Georgina Jones, Young Carers school operational lead, said: “We took part in Young Carers Action Day to celebrate both the young carers we have in school and to show our support for young carers across the country.
“The day was very successful and, as a result, we had children come forward who we had not yet identified as young carers and we will now go on and refer them to the specialist support services available. We will also support them in school as needed.” ....

ID cards for young carers launched in North Wales

AN ID CARD that shows young carers carry important responsibilities has been rolled out in Wales.
It is hoped the form of identification, launched by the Welsh Government in response to calls from young carers themselves, will give recognition and provide a quick way to inform teachers and health professionals of the extra duties they have.
Official figures show there are around 7,000 young carers in Wales, however the number could be as much as four times this. They are usually responsible for caring for a parent or a sibling, whether ill or disabled.
There will be a phased roll-out of the national ID card, with all local authorities in Wales providing their card by April next year. Following their launch on Young Carers Action Day on Tuesday, March 16, North Wales local authorities are working with Carers Trust Wales as part of plans to raise awareness of the scheme. ....

COUNCIL leaders said a huge thank you to the 200 young carers across Bury who are looking after our people and families.
The tribute came on national Young Carers Action Day which this year was held on March 16 and celebrated the work of the country’s estimated 700,000 young carers.
Cllr Tamoor Tariq, cabinet member for children’s services, young people and skills, said: “Our young carers do a magnificent job, and we are committed to supporting them.

Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin is supporting Young Carers Action Day.
A north-east MSP has pledged her support to an annual campaign raising awareness of young carers.
Young Carers Action Day has been held over the last six years to highlight the contribution they make to their families and communities by supporting someone due to illness, disability, mental health problem or addiction.
A recent survey carried out by the Carers Trust showed more than 70% of carers aged 12-17 and 85% of those aged 18-25 have increased concern for their futures as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. ....
