Dover-Sherborn senior Oliver Morgens recently participated in the Massachusetts Lions District 33K Youth Speech Competition.
This is an exciting achievement for Morgens and the Sherborn Leo and Lions Club, and we are proud of his outstanding work,” said President Jack Mulhall. “This is a very unique school year, and we are so happy that Oliver participated in the Lions Speech Contest and competed up to the Zone level.”
The Youth Speech Competition is an annual contest sponsored by the Massachusetts Lions Clubs that provides high school students the opportunity to deliver a five-to eight-minute speech on a designated topic of interest. The 2020-2021 speech topic was, “Is Winning Everything?” ....

Virtual Turkey Burn Run Raises $7,000 or Youth Programs

Despite the obstacles posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pleasanton North Rotary managed to raise more than $7,000 for youth programs during its sixth annual Tri-Valley Turkey Burn Family Fun Run over the Thanksgiving holiday.
This yearâs Turkey Burn drew 225 registered participants who planned their own runs, walks, or strolls with family members or small groups of friends in the Tri-Valley area, according to Michael Cherman, who chaired the Rotary organizing committee.
The 2019 Tri-Valley Turkey Burn at Ken Mercer Sports Park in Pleasanton drew nearly 2,000 registered participants.
âIt was hard to predict what it would be like to go virtual, but we still had a lot of positive feedback from our runners and walkers,â Cherman said. âThe spirit of the Turkey Burn lived on.â ....

Westborough High School Venya Khare recently won the Westborough Lions Club s Youth Speech Contest for 2020-21.
She, together with seniors Neil Kale, Nikita Sarin, and freshman, Nicole Nguyen, participated in this year s contest with speeches on the topic of “Is winning everything?” Due to the pandemic, the competition was held via Zoom. This is the sixth year that the Westborough Lions have sponsored the contest.
Each student s speech was to be no less than five minutes and no more than eight minutes in length. Point penalties were assessed for any deviation from these parameters. At this local level contest, the students were allowed to read directly from their manuscripts. Three independent judges critiqued each speech on delivery, effectiveness and text. The student with the most first place finishes as determined by the judges using their scoring matrices was deemed the w ....
