COVID-19 changes the way Muslims in central Pa. celebrate Ramadan

Ramadan began last week for Muslims, but the COVID-19 pandemic once again disrupted many of the holy month s key celebrations.
In central Pennsylvania, large prayer services and communal feasts were either restricted or canceled entirely, including for the Islamic Society of Greater Harrisburg, located at 407 N. Front St.
Prayer services at the mosque, which can typically fit more than 300 individuals, have been reduced to 50, according to Muhammad Fayyaz, the former presidet of ISGH.
Additionally, large community dinners known as Iftar hosted after sunset to break the daily fast were canceled this year. Instead, the ISGH is hosting a drive-thru Iftar and providing dinners from 6 to 7 p.m. every Saturday through the end of Ramadan, which runs from April 13 through May 12, Fayyaz added. ....

(Harrisburg, PA) A Lower Paxton Township woman is being accused of stealing from Nancy Pelosi s office during the U.S. Capitol riot. Riley June Williams was arrested and charged yesterday with knowingly entering a restricted building or ground without lawful authority, violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds for her alleged involvement in the mob attack in D.C at the beginning of the month. FBI authorities say they believe Williams stole a laptop computer or a hard drive device from Speaker Nancy Pelosi s office. According to a tip they received from a friend of Williams, she said she is planning to sell the laptop or hard drive to another friend in Russia. The FBI s investigation is still ongoing. ....

“The GIANT Company’s generous donation to these nonprofits will give them the boost they need to continue to be good neighbors to our local community,” said Representative Patty Kim, Central PA MLK Day of Service chair. “We are grateful for the investment and appreciate GIANT’s partnership.”
Giant said it is also donating $10,000 to Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council to promote and recruit new minority businesses for certification and development through a new grant program focused on food retail, consumer packaged goods, and support service companies.
