Abu Dhabi schools reopen fog affects students' attendance


(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Abu Dhabi private schools on Sunday re-opened for in-classroom lessons amid a spike in Covid-19 cases, but the attendance of pupils was affected due to an inordinate delay in the movement of school buses because of foggy weather conditions.

Earlier, the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee had announced that in-classroom lessons would resume for all grades in the emirate from February 14.
The authorities had approved a preventive protocol specific to the school community, including for academic and administrative staff and pupils, which will remain in force till the end of the academic session. ....

Educators are considered frontliners and encouraged to support the government’s vaccination programme.
Abu Dhabi private school teachers, administrative staff and their families on Sunday received the Covid-19 vaccine at their respective schools as part of the nationwide vaccination campaign to protect the UAE community from the ongoing pandemic.
The one-day vaccination programme was arranged by Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek) in coordination with Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap). Health workers visited various schools to vaccinate the educators. ....

Abu Dhabi teacher organises virtual push-up contest for schoolchildren


Abu Dhabi: Harun Rashied grew up in the northern Indian hill station of Nainital. In the town bordering the Himalayas, sports is a big deal and Rashied himself passionately played cricket, football and basketball in his youth.
It was no surprise, therefore, when he pursued a degree in Physical Education, despite already having a Master’s degree in Commerce. And when the COVID-19 pandemic brought all school sporting activities to a grinding halt, Rashied, 40, now the head of Physical Education (PE) at Islamiya English School in Abu Dhabi, was determined to continue promoting fitness.
“Students look forward to the sports competitions we organise, and although they are not graded on their PE lessons, they strive to keep fit so they can go on to win the competitions. When these competitions were suspended, I knew I had to find a way to keep the children motivated, especially as they needed an outlet while navigating their way through a pandemic,” Rashied told Gulf News. ....
