A vaccination policy exclusively relying on digital portal CoWIN for inoculating those aged between 18 to 44 years would be unable to meet its target of universal immunization due to âdigital divideâ and the marginalised sections of the society would bear the brunt of âaccessibility barrierâ, the Supreme Court has said.
The apex court said such policy could have serious implications on the fundamental right to equality and the right to health of persons within the age group of 18 to 44 years.
It also noted that even the digitally literate are finding it hard to procure vaccination slots through CoWIN portal. ....

Too serious : Supreme Court on Centre cancelling 3 crore ration cards for not linking Aadhaar
The Supreme Court on Wednesday termed the cancellation of around three crore ration cards by the Centre due to non-linking with Aadhaar card as âtoo seriousâ, and sought response from the Central government and all states on the issue. A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde and justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said this matter should not be treated as adversarial as it is too serious a matter.
The bench said the matter will be put up for final hearing. At the outset, senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, appearing for petitioner Koili Devi, said the petition deals with the larger issue. ....
