Fishing Limits Increased In Utah Due To Low Water Levels

On Wednesday the Utah Division of Wildlife updated Utah s fishing regulations to allow anglers to catch and keep more fish in bodies of water across the state.
Drought has decreased water levels across Utah and smaller amounts of water heat up faster. This is a problem for fish because hot water holds less oxygen than cold water.
A combination of less oxygen and high temperature can lead to issues for fish, and can sometimes be fatal. According to the division, increasing the daily fish limit will reduce the likelihood of fish die-offs in some water bodies with anticipated low water levels.  ....

Utah’s June Unemployment Figures
Utah’s unemployment rate remained unchanged in June from the previous two months. It stood at 2.7%, the second lowest rate in the country after Nebraska. State officials said just over 44,000 Utahns were unemployed last month. Utah’s two-year job growth figures showed a full percentage point increase from May to June. Mark Knold, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services, said that shows how well Utah’s economy is rebounding despite “rumblings of labor shortages.” The financial sector saw the biggest increase in jobs in the state in the last two years, adding almost 18,000 positions. Over that same time period, the leisure and hospitality service sector shed almost 7,000 positions. ....

Gardner Policy Institute and Utah Outdoor Partners, a non-profit focused on the business of outdoor recreation. They found that 79% of Utah transplants rated outdoor recreation the most important factor in their decision to move to the state over career advancement opportunities and pay. 82% of Utah natives who left the state said they moved back for outdoor life ahead of family and cost of living. This research complements a 2018 survey that looked at the importance of Utah’s outdoors and employee recruitment. ....
