Jordan Salcito and her husband, Robert Bohr, live and work in a world of upscale wine and food. Ms. Salcito was a sommelier at Eleven Madison Park and David Chang’s Momofuku restaurants before starting Ramona, her own line of canned, Italian-style wine spritzes, in 2016. Shake Shack has emerged as one of the most diverse employers in America after hiring more than 1,000 people in 2020. Black, Latino and Asian Americans make up a combined total of 44.2% of retail fast food and counter workers nationwide, according to the latest available US Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Yet people of color collectively make up more than 75% of Shake Shack’s overall workforce population of about 7,400, according to the company’s latest “Stand For Something Good” diversity, equity and inclusion report released Thursday. ....

Shake Shack aims for gender parity, 50% POC restaurant leadership by 2025

Shake Shack s recently released Stand For Something Good 2020 report shows the company promoted more than 1,500 employees in 2020, with 56% of those promotions going to women and 76% going to people of color. The company also established four employee resource groups and a dedicated Diversity, Equity and Inclusion function to advance its commitment to equal opportunity for growth.
Shake Shack set new equity goals for 2025, including gender parity in restaurant and corporate leadership roles, 50% people of color in restaurant leadership roles (currently 35%) and 30% people of color in corporate leadership roles (currently 20%). The company will also seek new partnerships with minority and women-focused organizations within that timeframe. ....
